  1. Thank you. The wood selection doesn't seem so bad to me. The construction, however, isn't very refined. But I find some similarities with Mougenot violins, mainly in the varnish tone.
  2. Thank you. Yes, I'm waiting for a specialist to come here
  3. Yes, that's likely the case, along with carelessness on the part of whoever was storing the violin. Do you think this violin might have come from Mougenot's workshop?
  4. I think it was carelessness on the part of whoever was storing the violin. Do you think this violin might have come from Mougenot's workshop?
  5. Hi, I would like to hear opinions on the authenticity of this violin. Despite this label, it seems you had another one previously attached, and then removed it to attach this one. To me it is clearly a French violin, but is it really from Léon Mougenot's workshop? Regards
  6. Thank you so much for your help and tips.
  7. My eyes weren't entirely wrong. Even the varnish looked more like that of Mirecourt violins than that of German ones. But I'm a beginner when it comes to identifying violins.
  8. Thank you very much. So Amati's assessment is correct. I have a lot to learn Could you please tell me what characteristics identify him as German?
  9. I'm not a luthier, nor an instrument expert. I'm a modest violinist, but since I own other French violins (a Collin-Mezin and a Nicolas Vuillaume), this one seemed to have more similarities to the early 20th-century German violins I've seen. Do you think it's German?
  10. Hi, I recently acquired this violin for restoration. To me, it's clearly French, but as you can see, I'm not a great expert. I requested an appraisal on the Amati website, and they say it's German. Do you agree?

I was comparing it to some pieces by Hermann Dolling Jr. that I found online and I didn't find any similarities, neither in terms of wood type nor varnish.

Since it has wooden blocks gluing the back joint inside, I thought it suggested more French. It seems to me a relatively recent violin

Perhaps a little, but not as much as the photograph suggests

Hi, Could you help me identify the origin of this violin? To me, it looks French, and I don't think most of the wear on the varnish is natural. Could it be a reproduction of a known violin? Or just a simple workshop violin? Thanks
