I use a potassium norbixinate dye (Michael R Molnar recipe) I apply and the Vitamin E helps reduce oxidation for light fastness. Can be removed from the formula.

Some of the spirit varnish recipes with elemi and mastic to help keep it somewhat playable are not so bad for those that don’t want to cook a varnish. Here’s my suggestion. Precise Recipe (≈300 ml): Ingredient Precise Weight Role Yellow Indian dewaxed shellac 42.5 g Primary film former Sandarac 17.5 g Hardness Mastic (tears) 9.0 g Flexibility Soft elemi 6.5 g Elasticity Venice / larch turpentine 4.0 g Flow & leveling Mixed tocopherols (Vit E) 0.10 g Antioxidant 95–96% ethanol 275 ml Solvent

Depends, with a lifetime of body dysmorphia, where some had the inner talk of being too scrawny, strength training went too far and one could shake a soundpost out of a VW bug. Next project? The 1742 “Rovelli” Guarneri del Gesù. Received the poster in my latest issue of The Strad magazine. Traced the inner form from the CT scan of the ribs, the line follows between the ribs and lining. Will drill the clamp holes and then finish cutting out the corner and end block locations. The holes drilled help ensure that the blocks only contact enough to stay solid during the garland construction, but be easy to knock the blocks out when completed.

It does take time for the tragacanth to become a thick mucilage. But no heating is necessary after the preparation is complete.

Did some local asking. The M.E. Strings indicates that it's one of that UK retailers (who do not make bows but select, setup and then stamp those that meet their selection) and part of their "intermediate" pernambuco bow line. Almost certainly a China workshop item that met M.E. Strings selection and the stamp. Most likely a "commercial grade" pernambuco. Looks like an "intermediate student" bow. Was told that the use of a neodymium magnet doesn't rule out "German Silver" and chemical testing would be more definitive but probably a non-issue as it's not going to be of any significant value to be of concern. But it does have a nice balance/feel to it. iPhone photos are failing to capture the appearance correctly, more vibrant and reddish than the camera seems to fail at capturing. I had to hold it to try and have my skin tone help the camera capture it better. But with those details known, it's a likely a fairly inexpensive bow of no real significance. The price I was offered reflects that. Might still get it as a spare practice bow.
