FYI, the ribs are exactly the same as our other full size violin. I really don't understand all the viola discussion, because literally all the dimensions are the same as a full size violin except the body length which is only half an inch shorter. Next step in the identification saga, I reached out to Ekkard Seidl, in Markneukirchen, who said he did not think it was Markneukirchen.

I appreciate all the feedback! I would have replied sooner but there is apparently a limit of only 2 posts per day for new members. I will try to find some authorities on Markneukirchen instruments. If anyone knows of a resource, I would certainly appreciate the tip. FYI the dimension of the body length is 34.5 cm and the waist is 10.5cm. In answer to Mr. Swans comment about the price paid, I am happy to say that it was only $1,500.00 and my daughter assured me that it played MUCH better than the violins we tested at a local shop that were priced near $4,000. Though I do not play, I can vouch for the fact that the sound was immeasurably better. Thank you all again for your feedback. I will be very glad for any further comments.

Actually, I do not know, but would not be surprised. He mentioned doing some work on many of the violins he sold but I do not recall anything about this one specifically. I am only a dad with a student daughter. Do you see anything of concern?

Hi, I am doing research on a violin I just bought for my daughter. It is labeled as a Cuypers, 1838, but I have been assured that this is not authentic by Andreas Post, nor even dutch. It is a 7/8 size. The gentleman I purchased it from was confident that it was from Mittenwald made between 1880 and 1920, however I just recieved a message from Rainer Leonhardt of Mittenwald who disagrees and does not think it its from that region. I would very much like to know if this assessment is correct, who its maker might be, and get an appraisal. I would sure appreciate your help and look forward to hearing back from you. If there are other pictures that would be helpful please let me know. It has a very beautiful sound.
