My grandfather, who owned a farm near Walla Walla, and my mother who grew up there, were actually doers, not posers. Would I be totally wrong by characterizing Walla Walla today as a fairly wealthy wine-producing area, which has mostly lost touch with its roots, people like my mother and her father?

The beginning of the end was probably when those parents and grandparents (pbuh) raised a generation of insecure brats who think it's the height of impropriety to ask them not to slur.

If this is a cheap Chinese cello it is the best playing and sounding Chinese cello I have ever come across.

I'm unqualified to comment on your particular instrument, but I always figured mass production would, through a sheer numbers game, make at least one good instrument accidentally.

I heard Pavarotti a couple of times claiming he only wants to sound like Pavarotti. I never thought he sounded like a cello. Pav. does a very specific thing with his voice and I heard nobody able to do that on a cello. I would appreciate if you could post a clip where this similarity you sense is reasonably obvious.

Making a joke, Carl. Because all this "X is good because it sounds like Y" is kind of an odd line of thinking, to me.

If I could do another pass, maybe it was his resemblance to a cello what was the cause of his greatness.

  4. Extending your question, is arching height alone that valuable/predictive a variable?

I'm about a third of the way through building my first one, so I don't know anything, but it seems like you could have a host of different arching shapes with the same highest point.

I can assure you that outline as such has only a minimal effect on the sound in general. The violin didn't sound when it was completed, but I managed to get a reasonable good sound on it with some alterations EXCEPT the outline.

    I don't think that tracks.

Controlling for a variable isn't the same as showing that variable has no effect, just that other variables have effect outside of the effect of the controlled variable.

One of the better empiricists might correct me.
