  1. I feel that ratio is a myth. Just like with a violin, you're paying for the name, provenance, and condition. Bows are such personal things, and in my experience, it's best to play every bow you can get your hands on, even the ones way out of your price range, so that you know exactly what playing characteristics you're looking for.
