  1. E yes, this is my first attempt at building a violin... [i'm a studio furniture designer/maker and fiddler looking for a challenge] are the measuring 'nibs' on your caliper replaceable and there different ones with the unit you have? either wood source is fine so long as it's aged enough, ready to start carving. also, am looking for matching ribs / back ... back & sides flame should be nice on back but doesn't have to be 'psychedelic'. top should be nice clear vert. grain. neck blanks with minimal flame for beginner's first fiddle please send list and link -or- attachment of wood photos in email to billgarbus at gmail Thanks, BG
  2. hi E, do you still have the caliper for sale? also, am looking for bending iron, small finger planes, wood for first attempt at a Strad copy tnx! BG in CT
  3. hi Piaff ok! please contact me via email for details billgarbus at gmail dot com thanks BG hi Piaff... hope my last note didn't confuse you... I don't want to type in the entire email address to thwart the 'bots' from 'scraping' my address stated another way... my email is b_llg_rbus@gmail.com .. hope that's clear. I'm definitely interested in your book. Thanks, all the best, Bill
  4. hi Piaff ok! please contact me via email for details billgarbus at gmail dot com thanks BG

  8. JMJ, any ideas on what input to use for neck design/ drawing? thanks, BG
  9. TVB thank you for your comments. fyi, I received the Strad Dancla poster yesterday ... am very delighted, impressed and motivated. Photos, CT scans, dimensions, drawings, specs. are all gorgeous, informative and complete, my only VERY minor criticisms.. 1- lack of drawing or scan of entire neck, (But should be easy to create a drawing based on the dims and pix.) 2- scans are presented with bass bar and sound post both on right side, which is a bit confusing, especially since plate thickness map shows bar on left. so, off to the drawing board now... ps. poster delivery from UK only took 3 days! thanks again BG in CT, USA
  10. just found it. seems like a very useful article for a first timer. Thanks! BG in CT http://www.skyline-apa.com.au/Family/Violin/Stradposter.pdf
  11. hi Don when you get a moment, could you please let me know if Pollens mentions Strad's Dancla mold? Thanks in advance Bill G in CT
  12. hi James: Thanks for your input on Messiah. with CT scans, dimensions, thickness and arching maps, it seemed that the Dancla poster has more info than Messia? So, I ordered Strad's Dancla poster. I'm planning to do working drawings using the poster as an underlay. So, the first step of my exciting journey has happened! Thanks Again. Bill Garbus in CT, USA
  13. hi Michael I was getting ready to push the send button on the Messiah poster and noticed a few of the other posters had CT scans, dimensions, thickness and arching maps. It seemed that the Dancla poster was a good one? So, I switched the order and my focus to Strad's Dancla. I'm planning to do working drawings using the poster as an underlay. So, the first step of my exciting journey has happened! Will keep you posted on progress as it occurs. Thanks Again. Bill Garbus in CT, USA
