Recently I saw a bass violin with an unflamed maple back, made of 4 pieces. They probably did this because the wood was not big enough, i assume. But then i wonder: did they propbably joint just 4 beames, and started sculpturing afterwards? It didn't look like bended pieces... Was there a specific technique I for this cases?
Good afternoon
I was wondering: Does anyone know some litterature about violin making in the north of France in the 17th- 18th century? I come only across information about Paris and Mirecourt... but i am more interested in the north, i. e: Lille and the part close to Belgium (which was not called 'belgium' yet, of course...), the 'pays bas meridionaux'
thank you very much in advance!
