    Violin ID

Hi everyone. I'm hoping you can help me identify a violin that I encountered yesterday. It belonged to an elderly woman's late husband. She suspects he or his family bought it back in Scotland. The fluting goes all the way around the scroll Super long bee stings To me it looks like the linings are butted up against the blocks The owner would like to sell it. Can anyone give an idea of what I could tell her it's worth? 20220304_130822.heic 20220304_130721.heic 20220304_130857.heic 20220304_130914.heic 20220304_131035.heic 20220304_131043.heic 20220304_131050.heic 20220304_131057.heic 20220304_131111.heic 20220304_131152.heic 20220304_131310.heic 20220304_131319.heic 20220304_131605.heic 20220304_131650.heic 20220304_131738.heic
  4. I'm wondering if anyone has photos of the Stradivarius exhibit that the Musical instrument museum in phoenix hosted a few years back. I went and got some pictures, but they're all terrible quality. My journey into instrument making started there and I'd like some better images of the exhibit. Hope someone can help out!
  5. That makes so much sense! I'm building my first violin and the short grain kept breaking off. I didnt even think about that! This board is great!
  6. Thanks for all the help. I ended up just holding it together with my hands for a couple of minutes. I don't think it turned out too badly!
  7. Thank you all for the advice! I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet, but I think I'm just going to go the hand clamp route. I have a spare neck block, so I'm prepared to start over, but I'd like to see how it glues up first. Thanks once again! I'll post pictures when it's back together.
  8. Thank you all very much. I'll glue it back up tonight. David: Yes, I was using a mallet. Live and learn!
  9. Hey all, I'm working on my first violin, and I just carved my best looking scroll yet. It doesn't look incredible, but I'm super proud with how it's turning out so far. (I'm not an experienced luthier.... or woodworker for that matter) As I was starting to hollow out the pegbox, the scroll just popped off. I accidentally knocked it off my bench earlier and I guess that cracked it. What is the proper way to repair this? Is the fix as simple as glueing the pieces together with some high strength hide glue? Thanks!
  10. I'm not the one selling them. I'm just looking for a price so I can buy them haha. Sorry if this isn't the right place for that! I've found the Guaneri book online, but I just cant find any price for the Strad anywhere. Any ideas?
  11. Hey all, First time poster. I've heard about the Hill Strad and Guaneri books for a while, and just found someone local who has them. I have no idea what these are worth though. What would a fair offer for them be?
