Last year I took it to Sotheby's and the violin guy there said its was ok! I sold it quite cheap to be on the safe side though.. EDIT: I like your avatar! The Ole Bull del Gesu..
  2. quote: Originally posted by: Wound_Gut Thanks for those recordings. Actually Hennig Kraggerud recently toured here in Australia and is, I believe coming back again - perhaps this month. He obviously can't keep away! I wonder what instrument he has been using on tour - I don't think it is that Del Gesu. He makes a lovely sound but I think that Ole Bull to my ears is a little less gritty and bright in the midrange than some others like Rabin's, Chang's, etc. Henning is a friend of mine! He used to play an Zygmuntowicz violin for many years. A copy of the "Kreisler" del Gesu. Two or three years ago he started to play a great violin made for him by a Norwegian maker (belive it or not), named Harald Lund. But yes, he plays the Ole Bull nowadays. He performed all the Ysaye sonatas for me with this violin in a tiny livingroom. Just great! Henning with the "Ole Bull"
  3. quote: Originally posted by: Wound_Gut I would be interested to know what other Del Gesus which have survived the regraduation process and have also been recorded. My understanding is the number is quite small. Anyone know? The "Ole Bull" 1744 is one of them. You can hear it on this recording: http://www.naxos.com/mainsite/...asp?item_code=8.557266
  4. Which string has more overtones? Thomastik Vision titanium..
  5. Milstein - Great Tourte.. I have tried it
  6. Hello! I own a (in my opinion) great Voirin bow! 60,5 g. I have tried several Sartory bows, but compared to my Voirin, they all feel a bit "stiff and clumsy". A few weeks ago I played a fantastic Tourte bow. It was a great experience! So easy to play, and produced a great sound on my violin. I think Voirins work best with "strad type" violins, which doesnt require a lot of bow pressure. I have tried my Voirin on a 1744 del Gesu, and it didnt work very well. Sorry, my english is not good..
  7. I asked the violinmaker if he had any info about Petterson. Sadly he had not heard of him. The translation is good..
  8. The best sounding violin I've played: 1744 del Gesu.. with Peccatte bow! Fantastic.. Have also played 1737 del Gesu, Hyrominus II Amati, Andrea Guarneri. Hope to play a strad some day!
  9. Quote: There are 2 verses to the poem, I have a translation of the first: "Turn over all your ways and heartaches to Him who owns the whole heavenly city (stronghold); He who can still the storm and break the billows blue, He will find the way on which your feet should go." The prayer translates: "Now my eyes are closing, God, Father on high, take me in Thy safekeeping, from sin and sorrow and danger; Thy angel guard me, who has led my feet today." The maker/date is written: "Arbeidet Joh(n)? Petterson or Pedderson, 18/8/1731 There is another possible name written: "Karsben" or maybe it is just a word? Ron. Hello! The best thing would be if you could write the text on Norwegian! "The maker/date is written: "Arbeidet Joh(n)? Petterson or Pedderson," "Arbeidet" means work or worked on. John Petterson is a quite normal Norwegian name. Later this evening Im going to meet one of the best Hardanger makers. I will ask him if he has any coments on this "John Petterson" PS, sorry, my english is not good..
  10. Quote: It has much Norwegian writing inside, translation indicates it is religious poetry & prayer. Dated 18 August, 1731, by John Petterson. Could you post this Norwegian writing? Interesting!

  13. Thanks! The interesting part is that this violin was owned and played by the same man who owned these great violins: http://forums.maestronet.com/forums/show...true#Post248505
