Announcing the 1st Annual String Art Competition.: In our experience most musicians are also talented in the visual arts and their artwork reflects a love of being expressive with their instruments. Get your artwork in print by submitting your creations to The Violin Case for a new 2007 String Art Calendar to be published this year. 12 winners will be chosen. Artists of any age may apply.   2. I'll add my two cents here from a teacher's point of view. 1. I require my students to keep a notebook which I write in each week so the student and parent know what to work on during the week. 2. We talk specifically about *how to practice* the problem areas. 3. There are times when it is time to find a new teacher! Your frustration sounds like it may be one of those times. I have had a few times where I recommended the student find a new teacher if I didn't feel like our lessons were productive. 4. I have also talked to parents and said that there isn't any progress, do you want to keep up teaching your child. You'd be suprised at how many parents still want to continue. At that point, yes it is ethical to continue teaching the child as much as possible, while keeping the parent informed of progress. For what it's worth, I recommend you either have a heart to heart with your teacher or find a new teacher. You need to continue your progress. Julie
  3. I had to put in my 2 cents! I have to say that violin playing is so individual, that it doesn't matter what you listen to. Just listen to pieces and players that you love and that inspire you. And listen often. Good luck! Julie
