1. I have come across a violin with the label: Stephano Bricarelli Copia Guarnerius Del Gesu Milano 1936 I have not been able to find any details of this maker. Can anyone assist ? Sorry, I have no pictures of the instrument....
2. Yes, but then we have the number to be concerned about. Could he have produced 10 violins in his first year as apprentice ?
3. Nice violin but the date does not match. Could it be by the father ? web page
4. Hi, 2 weeks ago I posted the below question without getting any replies - so far. It would appear that you would be the perfect person to address this question to ?: ----------------------------------------------------------- Apparently stringed instruments bridge design has not changed for centuries. I was wondering if anyone has a rational answer to why the design is as it has been for ages ? I have searched the net e.g. on sound transmission and found that the function is to transmit the sound waves with as little loss of energy as possible, but nothing in particular on the actual bridge design. Just curious - I am no specialist.....

6. I have been using a liquid from Hjorth makers in Copenhagen, Denmark for some time. Expensive but does the jon I think. Now I have run out and have started using furniture polish with a good result but I have had second thoughts whether is actually a good idea. What do the pro's outthere use ?
7. How does dryness affect violins and bows then ? Having recently moved to a place that gets as dry as 30% during winter (indoors) I am very concerned for my violins. Will internal humidifiers do the the job or should a separate room/closet be equipped with more advanced humodors ?
8. I have to part with a fine Italian violin and wonder if anyone would have the time and insights to translate the following from the certificate (I will skip the top part): "Io sottoscritto liutaio Umberto Lanano dichiaro che il violino portante la mio etichetta autografa e timbri a fuoco all'interno, e stato da me personalmente costruito a mano in tutte le sue parti nell'anno 1993. Caratteristiche dello strumento: Fondo in due pezziin legno di acero, fasce e manico dello stesso legno molto marazzato, piano armonico in legno di abeto a fibra regolare, varnice giallo/rosso di buona trasparenza, sonorita ottima in tutte le quattro corde compatibile con l'eta dello strumento...." I will obmit the measures of the violin as even I understand those. Thanks in advance for anyone who would help !
9. Does anybody know the history of this maker as he does not appear in the litterature I possess ?
10. I have a nice old John Dodd violin bow equipped with a new frog and adjuster. I want to restore it to original condition and wonder if anyone would have an original frog and adjuster available - or know where to look ?
11. Hi, Has anyone heard of this maker of the late 1600's ? I cannot find him in the traditional litterature and on the web only one shows up for sale in England. I am interested in his quality of work and wholesale price range if anyone knows.
12. DPalm, I understand the confusion of the dating and you made me curious. It seems that there might have been 2 G.A. Marchi's this one being the later. Actually here in Maestronets auction reports you will find one from 1768 sold as 'by' by Skinner's. It also seems that he wrote a very well known book: "The Manuscript on Violin-making by G.A. Marchi - Bologna 1786"
13. Hi - I am the seller of the mentioned violin and I fail to understand why DPalm is trying to make something suspicious out of this sale.
The description on eBay is 100% correct and I will gladly answer any questions anybody might have. This includes DPalm who didn't bother to ask me before posting his note.
I am selling the violin because my son - for whom it was intended - finds it too small and prefers the Gand he is curently playing.
quote: Originally posted by DPalm: I'm curious, why is this violin up for sale so quickly? And why Ebay? It was sold by Tarisio's only last May 2001 for less then $5000 and they verified it to be PROBABLY by what it is labeled, 1760. Upon looking up Marchi I find he only made violins 1660 to 1726. Any one care to shed some light on this? http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?V...item=1507538204
14. I am not sure that I understand Michael's comment. To be sure this questions is about a 1780 Italian violin with a Wurlitzer number inside along with the aledged makers label. I am trying to verify the origin of this violin.
