  1. Does anyone know if there is a viola version of Achron's Hebrew Melody available? Anyone make their own transcription? Any violinists wish to comment on the difficulty of this piece and/or the feasibility of playing it on the viola? Any other general comments about the piece? Thanks a lot.
  2. Primrose, How about posting an mp3 of you on the furse? I'm sure many would like to hear it played after hearing so much about it! BTW, good luck at USC.
  3. Does anyone know when Vengerov's recording of the Walton viola concerto is supposed to be out? I've been hearing about Vengerov's upcoming venture with the viola, but I haven't heard when the cd is supposed to be released. Thanks
  4. I am looking for opinions of the bows of modern makers like David Samuels and Morgan Andersen (or others you may feel are worth mentioning). Specifically regarding who makes good viola bows (but all comments are welcome, whether they be about violin, viola, or cello bows). Also, be sure to include prices if you know them. Thanks

    Roman Teller

I am curious to know about the instruments of Roman Teller. I already know that there are a lot of fakes out there, and that the instruments made by his successor after his death are not that great, so I just want some information about the genuine ones and about the real maker. I recently purchased one of his instruments (very fine 17' Viola made in 1969) and have been very curious about the maker of my instrument. Any and all info will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot

    Modern makers

I am in the market for a new viola and would appreciate any information anyone might have on good modern makers. I am on a budget (about US$3,000-3,500) and I also need makers who will be willing to send me one of their instruments to try before I buy. Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can give me.
  8. Seeing as how these two bows are in about the same price range, I was wondering if any one on this list would be willing to offer their opinions on which is better. I am specifically interested in the viola versions of these two bows, but if you only know about violin or cello, then please post anyway. If you don't think that one is really "better" than the other, I would appreciate any comments as to their individual strengths and weaknesses. Thanks

    which violin

A good article for you to read is at http://www.stringsmagazine.com/issues/stri...coverstory.html The editors of strings magazine review 15 beginner level violin outfits, costing $1,500 or less, and pick their favorites. This might give you a good idea of what to look for and what questions to ask at music stores. Good luck

    violas

I have recently become very interested in the instruments of Frank Daniels. I am thinking of purchasing one of his violas, but I would like to know if anyone out there has anything to say about them (or his violins, if you know about them), because this is a large investment for me. I expect they will be mostly positive comments, because they seem like such fine instruments, but I would like to hear everything you have to say about them. Thanks a lot.
