  1. ebay violin sellers have plenty "antique" violins in their backyard? how can they get all these old violins, (except those fake) to let them sell continuously throughout the yr?
  2. eboy.inc seems to be active for several yrs, selling violin must be very rewarding
  3. "made in 1895 as indicated by its label" does it mean the conclusion was drawn from the label itself? if yes, i wouldn't be convinced the certificate doesn't mention about the authenticity, it only appraise its value , nothing more the value was "blackened", it could mean $1000, if you win u would know but there is no return policy from the varnish, it is highly suspicious a bet with $7000 + , no way
  4. good tactics ! i notice some even bid in the last one or two second
  5. me too can't understand the reason someone on earth willing to pay for this "violin" with that sort of money
  6. http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-19th-CENTURY-ITAL...=item4a9c3ef170 the seller changes the a/c name his positive feedback is 790 Is the positive feedback number reliable? I doubt ! i am bit puzzled by wood used for the top and bottom in this violin any comment for these wood? is it a gamble to buy violin from ebay?
  7. my godness, they are related ? in youtube, i can't tell any significant difference between the sound from those violins played i found myself explanation to not good recording equipment and the recording room
  8. the ebay violin sellers must read this thread, take their violin to do a appraisal first before setting their selling price
  9. U got a violin with several hundreds and later appraisal shows that its worth is several thousands This is absolutely funny. What a joke
  10. Thanks Mary for your response after a long time search in ebay and trying to bid for a violin now i finally give up i don't think i'd bid unless there is a reliable sound file uploaded by the seller almost all sellers say their violins are for professional, great projection mellow, excellent sound all sorts of nice description of their sound WITHOUT PROOF even though some sellers uploaded a video or sound file for listening interesting to find a $1000 or $5000 violins have no difference in their sound perhaps my ears are something wrong
  11. this thread started in yr 2003, am i correct? the Hanalei has not returned to this forum for 1 or 2 yrs interesting to see some users still respond to this thread with various content
  12. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=280330290371 auction ended 11th Apr with 26 bids Now repost http://cgi.ebay.com/Old-Violin-lab-De-Boni...93%3A1|294%3A30 what does it mean? Should it be sold already? My intuition is to stay away from this guy. Should I? why his photos are always with yellowish background light? Isn't it accurate to have a pure white or black color background for the bidder to examine the violin's color? In the bid history, "private listing - bidders' identities protected" what does it mean? Why can't i see the abbreviated bidder's ID? What does it mean "private listing"? Isn't the auction open to the public?
  13. always risky to buy from internet this way as u can't physically pick up the violin play it for some time, looking at it , checking it....etc and importantly making a serious comparison with your violins and all that u are familiar with if price is low, that would minimize the loss even got cheated thought a return policy is stated, buyer still would lose at least 2 times shipping fee would there be any area for argument on compensation for scratch/damage to violin returned to seller ?
