  1. I think I've got it Knock off the other eyebrow
  2. When I served as an apprentice in Hills* we regularly encountered this sort of problem. Eventually we developed a technique where we would carefully remove a lock of hair from the back of the lion's head and then graft it on to the eyebrow location. Rub the back of the scroll round the bottom of the communal ashtray and the job is good. Often the lion would end up with a slightly quizzical expression, which many people found strangely appropriate. (* the hills)
  3. I suppose the logical outcome of this position is that we'll all have to demand papers from musicians before allowing them into our workshops?
  4. Really? It's an enormously complex issue. Reducing it to some simplicity of wanting to infect others or take risks is risible, claiming it can be reduced down to a hobsons choice doesn't stand up to any scrutiny either I'll leave it at that I didn't make any comment on what choice I would make, or what choice anyone else should make, quite the opposite- as my first post clearly shows.
  5. I'm not sure resorting to impoverished nudists strengthens either your argument or your claim to speak for the various majorities mentioned....
  6. So insurance contracts currently exist which demand that event attendees are vaccinated?
  7. I'm asking you to explain this statement.....you seem to be saying that an organiser's degree of liability would depend on the vaccine status of attendees?
  8. Does the US tort system already legislate for vaccine status?
  9. I'm pleased to see mondomusica have stated an intention to hold mondomusica in September. It's an event I really look forward to and I hope to share a few too many beverages with fellow makers - at the usual spot just across from the cathedral....I'll be the man sipping two negronis, should anyone want to say hello. On a more serious note I contacted the organisers and said that I would not be able to attending if vaccine passports were required. I'm not against vaccines but I am in favour of freedom of choice, freedom to travel, freedom from discrimination etc. Some of you may agree or disagree and feel it a worthwhile exercise to contact the organisers to state your views.
  10. Perhaps you think empires are some sort of non-profit organisations? (Just teasing...)
  11. How is a violin made in Cremona in 1716 not Austrian?
  12. Wouldn't white be better- closer to the colour of the maple you'll be carving?
  13. Are we to take it that the high point of violin making is the ability to produce a convincing copy rather than a successful pastiche?
  14. Don't know david. I've never slept with a plumber- I'll just have to take your word for it.
  15. The disparity between European and American violin prices is noteworthy. All sorts of factors play a part in pricing- culture, cost of living, free healthcare, rivalry with plumbers in regard to finding a soul mate etc. During a recent LSO tour the bean counters worked our that a return flight to Heathrow was often a few pounds cheaper than a night in a hotel. As a result the LSO tour was interrupted by the occasional one night return to England. Perhaps the figures in the following articles/ reports are worth a read. https://beta.charitycommission.gov.uk/charity-details/?regid=232391&subid=0 https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/howard-reich/ct-ent-csoa-annual-report-1017-story.html%3foutputType=amp
  16. The concertante instruments are excellent value and remarkably consistent.
  17. I bought this from an English tool maker about 25 years ago. It's a bit more stable/easier to hold than most....
  18. Joe should have written the label before inserting it- he could've damaged the fs with his biro
  19. I used to write a few bits and pieces inside the top. I always finished by saying, "work carefully, I'm standing behind you".
  20. I don't see it to be honest. The varnish on yours looks different in terms of colour, texture and wear. The fs are radically different and there's not much similarity in terms of edgework or corners.
  21. I see some similarities in the scroll, though yours seems to have been subjected to some enthusiastic planing? However the varnish, fs and corners look to be from a completely different hand and school.
