  1. If you head about 1.5 hours up the Hudson River you can check out the Mahler Festival or the Aston Magna Festival at Bard College, Annandale on Hudson. www.bard.edu and check out press releases. Have fun!
  2. Hello Maestronetters! I have been away from the board (and my fiddle) for quite a while, but maybe this is the inspiration to get back into it. I am interested in buying Cakewalk and a mic to do some recording with my laptop. Does anyone have any configurations that they are really happy with? Sabrina

  4. Use third to personalize the shape of the phrases in the peice, especially if you want to add vibrato somewhere that would be on open strings if played in first position. Also, take into consideration the tonal qualities of the peice, stressing the functional notes within that key in higher positions rather than moving to an open string, if that is where they tend to lie. 5. I think its amazing that these soloists can remember the entire score! I don't think I ever saw him look at the music.
  6. Hi George Suzuki puts out books for violin with piano accompaniment. Check them out on www.sharmusic.com I personally have their book for violin and guitar, it covers Suzuki 1-2. How wonderful that they want to play duets together! :-) Sabrina
  7. Thanks! It is such a wonderful feeling! I am finding such a new syncronicity to my playing, my left hand-brain-right arm connection is so much stronger now, and I am already feeling that fast passages are coming more naturally. I think this was just the boost I needed to push ahead, and yes, my old bow was like something out of a cereal box! :-)
  8. Thanks, Rosie, I'll try not to let my age (34) deter me!
  9. Finally, I bought myself my first "real bow". It is a pernambucco bow made by a local luthier. I love it!!! After nine months struggling with my student bow, a plastic stick with fake horsehair, I feel like I am in heaven. This bow feels like it is playing itself. Alas, I hope it is a long honeymoon...... :-)
  10. Hello Everyone: I am thinking of ordering this duet book for violin & viola: Wolfhardt, 28 Little Duets, Op. 191 Shar lists it as mainly first position, with some shifting to third position. Has anyone got this or any comments on it?? Thanks, Sabrina [This message has been edited by ecology (edited 07-16-2001).]
  11. Did anyone catch this performance saturday night? I tried to get tickets but they were sold out. (at least the ones in my price range were!) ;-( Sabrina
  12. I pronounce it Sev-sik Simply becuase my last name is Polcek pronounced Pol-sek
  13. I went through this phase about six weeks ago. I found that playing with out my thumb on the neck for a bit at the beginning of each practice session, combined with taking a deep breath and really concentrating on relaxing all the way down my left arm upon exhale helped immensely. Good luck :-)
  14. Congradulations on your sucess, Kevin. And RainyAnn, the photos are great. Wish I could have made it, personal crisis, couldn't be avoided.
  15. I have used both ProArtes and Dominants on my fiddle, and I find the ProArts more powerful and even sounding, the Dominants do have a bit more color to them. Every fiddle is different, and for me, at my level, sticking with balanced sound is better for me right now.
