  1. woo-boy, i sure don't get this new format. crystal: good to see you again! hope you're doing well. i was sorry to hear about your dad. haven't had a chance to lurk on posts. been real busy. still have my e-mail? if not, i'll send it. catman: thanks. yes, alot of what you've said is what i've learned in my search for simple guitar chords. i.e. there's usually no such thing. i'd be very interested in learning all this but unfortunately i'm so busy trying to learn to fiddle, that i don't have the time to work on guitar. candace: thanks. that's exactly what i was looking for. wish there were more sites like that.
  2. would some celtic guitarist be so kind as to help me with some tunes? i've got a chance to play with a good guitarist with a strong folk background and it really throws me for a loop when a modal song gets back-up with a I-IV-V major progression. i can't find any sites that have just back up chords for celtic tunes. i don't need the music written out, if any one could just write them out for me separated out into lines and parts (like a and , i can figure out where they go. i'd like chords for these tunes: Golden Castle Celtic Society's Quickstep 42nd Highlanders Cooley's Gravel Walks Knocknagow thanks!
  3. quote: Originally posted by staylor: I'm not a proffessional novelist yet! (though It's true also). well told, staylor! i love it when reading something makes you feel like you're there. stay well.
  4. tell! tell! P.S. glad you had a safe trip!
  5. looks like i shoulda left a month later.... enjoy and be blessed!!! p.s. miss ya! i was thinking about you today when i was playing through a list and saw the song title "NOT the Irish Washer Woman".
  6. Yankee; HOWEVER you do what you're doing, i wish i could do as well. i like to print out the music when i've got the general feel of the song but i'm in too big of a hurry to commit it to memory (like Yankee says 'it's faster'). but i also notice that if i learn something by ear i don't have to wait to memorize it (i guess cos it's already done by then). Newfie: a case i can cite where learning by strictly reading came out better than learning by ear is some clips i've got of violon's. they were from a CD/book set 'Fiddler's Philharmonic'. i ordered the CD later, hoping there would be more tunes on there to learn and 'lo and behold!' what he had done with the songs by strictly reading them and not bothering to listen to the CD were immeasurably better than the professional fiddler on the CD! go figure. 7. got this tip from Gary. bought enough CD's to last me for a year. http://www.greenlinnet.com/ most are $10.00, some are $5.00.
  8. Finnegan's Wake and Lannigan's Ball (inspired by Violon) Tam Lin and Temperance Reel (inspired by Gary)
  9. Callie: what do you mean when you say 'Celtic Fiddle Fest CD's'? is there a series of them? the Green Linnet link makes it sound like that's just the 'best of' a fiddle fest collection.
  10. Father John McLeod's Jig....still don't have a handle on that on...or maybe it's just me. crystal? what do you think?
  11. the difference between a violinist and a fiddler... violinists: http://fingerboard.maestronet.com/ubb/Foru...TML/008427.html fiddlers: http://fingerboard.maestronet.com/ubb/Foru...TML/008434.html
  12. sorry, don't recognize the tune, it's very pretty though. and your website is VERY well done!
  13. crystal: that sounds awesome!!! what a variety of instruments! what more could you want? what skill level are the fiddlers?
  14. staylor: is this the one you wanted? http://fingerboard.maestronet.com/ubb/Foru...TML/005684.html
  15. sd: i think he meant this... http://fingerboard.maestronet.com/ubb/Foru...TML/002790.html
  16. HKV: his posts can seem rude because of the high-energy factor. i thought he'd be the type to just mow you right down, didn't expect him to be so thoughtful. a very gracious host. like Guiness, though, i did picture him with longer hair. ??? Dunvegan: thought she'd have one of those over-trained voices that drive me up a wall. actually it's gorgeous! violon: expected him to play his violin wearing a tuxedo, not a cowboy hat. Yankee Fiddler: thought she was a college student and she's so modest about her playing that i was surprised at how good she plays. wow! from the reunion pictures: Mu0n: i once said "if i had a daughter, i'd be playing matchmaker". now that i've seen his pictures, i'll say it again. hey Mu! you're handsome! Micaela B: pretty name, pretty face, no surprise there. now, staylor, ditto to the above... how about a picture of you? p.s. hope you had a good trip!
  17. simon et al: i re-did the rest of the files as zip files. i had to leave out 'dark isle' cos i was running low on links. if anybody still can't get them, let me know and i'll be glad to e-mail them.
  18. bob: would you like me to e-mail them to you, too? i see you've got your e-mail posted but i thought i'd better ask before sending files that big. also, what is ob????
  19. simon: thanks for the feedback. violon downloaded realjukebox and had no success with that either. i don't know if it's the download process or the file. actually, i don't have a clue what i'm doing. i read some posts on the 50megs BB and apparently i'm not the only one that has problems with mp3's on 50megs, but none of the problems they had seemed the same. hmmmm. in desperation i took the suggestion that someone had put forth about posting them as zip files. it works fine when i try it, but i don't know if you need to have winzip on your computer to use it. i'll start sending them to you by e-mail. if you're feeling adventurous, you might try cronin's favorite in the meantime. if you do and it works, let me know. if it blows up your computer, i'll just leave town.
  20. awww rats! can ya'll tell me, what you're getting when you click on the links? simon: last time i posted clips, didn't i end up havin to send em to you by e-mail? i don't know what the problem is. last time some people could get em and some couldn't. is it cos they're mp3's? i noticed that yours are wav files (and big ones, too). i tried loading wav files but 50megs wouldn't let me upload anything greater than 500 kb. you must have an upgraded site, no? bob: i'm sorry. if all else fails, i can e-mail them. do you have realjukebox? that's what comes up when i click on mp3's. please excuse me while i experiment... rats! 21. Candace: i'm so glad somebody got them to download. i couldn't find out what i did wrong. Park: i noticed that, too. pretty decent recording for a home system. sounds even better when the file's not whittled down. are you gonna post some clips of your fiddlin for us? i've only heard you play guitar....GOOD guitar. also, you said the site was gonna be up, will the new CD be on it? Crystal: i'm sorry. did you get the file to download but then it won't open? i don't know what the problem is. it's even more mysterious when some people can open them and others can't. if i can't fix it, would you like me to e-mail them to you? i'm not sure i have your right address cos i e-mailed you a couple of times in the last week or so but no answer. i was assuming you were busy. hey everybody: is it possible that real jukebox is the only thing that will play these? does anybody here have real jukebox and still can't get them to work? sorry guys.
  22. i got such a kick out of hearing Yankee Fiddler play! thought ya'll would, too... http://calebseite.50megs.com/favorite_links.html
  23. crystal: i found several 'irish dreams'. is this the one you're talking about? http://www1.buylink.com/cgi-bin/search.taf?function=search also, am i mistaken? i thought that, with the exception of Neil Gow's Lament and the Farewell, that most of the Puirt a Baroque CD was classical so i never got it. is the rest of the CD in the style of those songs?
  24. argh! crystal, do i have to download the whole collection of tunes to get ABC to work? shouldn't i be able to click on them one at a time?
  25. hi crystal! you mentioned 'my club'. does that mean that you got one started? how many responses did you get to your e-mail at work? have ya'll met yet? what kind of musicians responded? please tell. also, yankee suggested posting this site for everybody: http://rigel.csuchico.edu/pubscout/songs.html loads of tunes! now i've gotta figure out how to use abc. got the software downloaded but clicking on the links doesn't seem to make it run. ???
