  1. I recently moved to Geneva, Switzerland. I have difficulty in finding violin shops for buying violin accessaries or for repairs, etc. I would appreciate if I could be given some informations. (I think that there should be good violin shops in this area because Geneva has a renownd music conservatory.)
  2. I am trying to find the name and lyrics to a country song possibly by Merle Haggard or Johnny Cash or neither. The only lyrics I can recall are " I got drunk the day mama got out of prison, and I cried as I drove home in the rain" This is driving me nuts and any help would be greatly appreciated
  3. : : : : I have ebony Hill model pegs on my violin, and am thinking about replacing the white plastic collar and ball with gold. Has anyone done this before? Is it hard to do? Will the gold add too much weight? : : Thanks to everyone who responds.
  4. do you know a site that i can listen to the moonlight sonata ??? p.s. sorry i don't know where you can get the sheet on music ( try a piano store) thanx
  5. : : This is not a solicitation since I'm not selling anything - you all can earn money cruising the web if you think it is worthwhile. I figured I would join just to see what it is like - you can check teh amount of money you have already made whenever you want. : : Sign up for AllAdvantage and make $.50/hour browsing the internet - doing what you already do! The best part is that you also make money for all those you refer to the program - so spread the word! : : It's easy - just download the program at AllAdvantage and start making money for looking at violins! You just have to put up with this stupid advertisement bar at the bottom of your screen. Why not? It's not a ton of money, but every little bit helps when you are in the music business! You should be able to make enough to buy a set of strings every couple of months!

  7. I would like to know good ways to acquire sight reading skills.
  8. My friend has the subject violin and I was wondering if anyone has information on this make. Thanks.
  9. I like the extra height that wolf secondo gives. But there seems to be problem with the angle that shoulder pad makes. Because the shoulder pad is angled such that it does not comportably fit on the shoulder, I feel sort of discomfort while playing. And suggestion or advise would be appreciated
  10. I read almost all the board info. on the bow and have not seen much about it in 1999. I was wondering if anyone has bought one recently and had any problems with quality. There seemed to be some manufacturing inconsistencies with hair coming out and weight of the bow in the 1997-98 postings. I plan to buy one soon. Thanks.
  11. It seems just that the posture of right arm, where one lifts the upper arm for bowing is uncomfortable posture. I would guess that any strong man will feel tiredness if he lets his right arm stay like that for a while. I do exersize regularly. It may be due to posture problem. : : I frequently feel tired at the joint that connects : : shoulder to the right arm. Thereby, I bowing becomes : : uncomfortable and awkward. I would like to ask any : : comment on suggestion for this problem. : Pick up some free weights from you local sporting goods store. If you're fairly weak in the arms/shoulders, 10 lb barbells should be adequate. There is an exercise that most definitely pinpoints those muscles - I won't even attempt to explain it here, though. I recommend you get a book from the library so you can learn proper technique. Actually, now that I think about it, I would say that push-ups might achieve the same thing. I assume you have all the equipment and knowhow for that!!

  13. In the previous posts, people kept saying that even virtuos of today make mistakes in playing. So, does that mean that keep practicing the (same) piece until there is no mistake is useless or endless efforts?
  14. I usually seem to here string player breathing whenever he/she plays very expressive passage. I like to know wether it is common practice or my illusion.
  15. I'm applying everyones advice and is making a difference already. Thanks again.
