  1. My office has blocked social media, so I am unable to contact you via AO.

  2. Good morning. I understand - What's your name?

  3. Hello. I was looking for contact info for Robert Kimble the violin maker. Any chance you might have his info? Thank you! You can find me at magboyman at america online.

  4. Just as well... But hey, while we're on the subject - would you guys be willing to pitch in a little funding for an upgrade I'm considering? It's a pretty little fiddle: http://tarisio.com/wp/2012/04/folinari-guarneri-del-gesu-of-c-1725/ (Paypal is accepted)
  5. Hi CT, I agree whole-heartedly. As someone that has a full-time administrative job, part-time faculty postition, and freelances (as well as having just completed a masters degree), I'd like to direct her to get another job. I don't know what her situation may be, but $2,200 is not that difficult to generate when you're young and otherwise unencumbered. When she starts looking at professional level instruments will we then see her kidneys listed on Ebay? ~Chris
  6. Just as a good conductor will ask for what they want to hear from the musician (section) instead of asking for "more" or "less bow". Tell me what you want and trust that I know how to make it happen. (Sorry, personal pet peeve )
  7. I completely understand the difficulties surrounding saving for a violin upgrade. (I used my financial aid loan checks to pay for mine during college). But, to me, this feels too much like begging. Particularly when she appears to have at least one income stream as FC pointed out.
  8. I ran across this while browsing Ebay. I would never think to do this and I'm not sure how I feel about it. What are your thoughts? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Donation-Wanted-Toward-Violin-Old-French-Violin-Upgrade-from-German-Strad-Copy-/200750462868?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ebda8f794 ~Chris
  9. I'd rather they just send me one of those ratty ol' fiddles or bows but for some reason they never do.
  10. Wow! $20,000! No doubt the video was responsible for at leat half! http://tarisio.com/pages/auction/auction_item.php?csid=2197651456&cpid=2681569280
  11. Are we to assume this is the same case? (Fast forward to 5:40)
  12. That's quite a disparity between Tony & DG. Maybe one day Strad will be recognized for his efforts
  13. Dov Schmidt sells a temp controlled bending iron. http://www.dov-music.com/proddetail.asp?prod=1195 I have not purchased one - I just altered an Ibex for my purposes.
  14. Found this and thought I'd share: http://www.violinsoundpost.com/ http://www.ebay.com/itm/VIOLIN-SOUND-POST-SETTER-K-KS-STANDART-MODEL-NEW?item=360444440914&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7648860096660690357
  15. Is a fingerboard "wedge" such as this a "repair"?
  16. Michael Darnton has an article on violin photography easily found via google search. The article heading contains a request not to post it publicly. So try the search...
  17. Odd, that the frog looks untouched in comparison
  18. Here's a visual aid. I love me a nice one-piece slab cut back.
  19. Pardon if this was posted previously
  20. I'm not aware of a way to identify the buyer if you are not the participating seller.
  21. Hi Steve, Just wondering out loud... Wouldn't such publicly offered photos and documentation also help those inclined to match up more similar instruments and help them fashion up more convincing labels? Chris
  22. Try a different bow. I once had a a violin rattle confound me for months, until I relized it was the loose silver button on my bow. Sure as heck sounded like it was coming from the violin!
