  1. New Gallery Sections

We have added 4 new categories to the Gallery to better sort the photos that are being uploaded. There are now 5 categories in total: Uncategorized Violin Making Bow Making Restoration Authenticated instruments Lets us know what other categories you would like to see. Sorry if any links got broken when some of the photos were moved, but it made sense to bite the bullet now rather then have an unwieldy gallery develop. John
  2. This is an area we are in the process of updating. We have created a new dealer interface that allows them to upload instruments directly and we are encouraging them to use this area more. Further we will begin highlighting the most recently listed instruments throughout the site. Private listings will also be included in the newly listed instruments feature, and the listing price will be dropped. These changes are in place for dealers now, and the balance should be complete in the next 30 days.
  3. I apologize for the downtime. I was making an adjustment to the live server, and a bad cable placement fried the motherboard. So one new motherboard, CPU and a restoration later we are back online. A little more the wiser. The new equipment is a little faster so there is some upside to the event. Thanks, John
  4. New Format Maestronet

If you select the threaded view in your profile it is something you do only once. John
  5. Member titles based on the number of posts will return shortly. We are determining how to correct those member names with special characters. Icon uploads are also not currently working. Stay tuned. John
  6. Greetings: In addition to a modified Maestronet layout, the forum software is completely new. It offers more flexibility with our new hardware, and is more robust than the old product. We have endeavoured to carry over as much user data as possible but some data may have to be re-entered. Check your user profile after you log in and update it as necessary. We have also been able to bring back all posts from the early Maestronet forum which dates all the way back to January 1996. They can be browsed just as they were posted, or searched along with all the other current posts. We will be tweaking the forums over the next little while, so give us your comments as we go. Thanks, John Wells

  8. Maestronet Search Feature

I checked the settings and have adjusted them to 10 seconds between searches. John
  9. regarding changes: I'm embarrased!!!

It's not the threads that are locked just the individual posts. You could make a correction to an earlier post by simply posting to the old thread. This would bring the thread back to the top for all to see. A case can be made for keeping the integrity of the treads as they developed. I remember a problem we had a few years back when posts could be edited or deleted anytime. A large thread developed with lots of good input, but when the person who started the topic deleted his post the entire thread was deleted. Further, many discussions would make little sense if sections of threads just disappear, as could happen if unlimited editing were allowed. With almost 200,000 posts in the system it seams to have worked to this point. Thanks, John

In answer to your questions: · Posts can be edited for 48 hours and then they are locked by the system. In unusual situations we can go back to old posts manually and edit or delete them. Only once or twice in the past few years has this been requested. · Prior to the server upgrade the system was slowing down and locking up. In an attempt to help alleviate the problem all the 50,000 or so, soapbox posts were deleted. They are probably on a backup disk or two but we don’t see the need to put them online and make them searchable. · The other old posts you refer to (40,000 or so) from earlier software versions of the fingerboard have been saved and are on the agenda to migrate in some fashion to the new board. We realize there is good material in the early posts, some from trusted members no longer with us, so they will be back online at some point. Thanks, John
  11. Quick note: Anonymous posting now turned off. John
  12. Due to ongoing problems, the soapbox was turned off a number of months ago. John
  13. MP3 file uploads to Maestronet

How big are the files you are uploading? Try something less than 1 meg. Mine was 950K and it worked. John

test This test seems to work. We will continue to look into the problem. John

Make sure you have checked the box that says, "I want to preview my post and/or attach file" when you are posting. Then when you get to the preview screen there is a box to browse to the file on your computer. John
