I find it easy to memorize songs when using the piano, before the violin. Then edify this memory on the violin and then I know the songs melody.

I am hoping I can write music for the organ and violin. And because I am learning the piano I already automatically know something about the ukulele. Just don't have a uku right now. I want to write songs and share + sell tracks. Might be really hard sell tracks, but maybe I can get people to listen to my music. I want to entertain people with music.

I used to read the Fingerboard all the time when I was studying the violin about 4 years ago and haven't been back since then. Now I'm more involved with teaching piano to several kids(as a hobby, aside from my fun semiconductor engineering design job ), and wanted to be more serious about it. I'm located in Atlanta, but learned piano through the Royal Conservatory system (Toronto, Canada). I'm wondering if there is a similar system (a set of books) that I could use that is U.S. based, that I can use for my students. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I've taught using the Bastien and Alfred books, and wanted to know if there were other book series out there, with a classical influence. Something similar to the Royal Conservatory Toronto Books (Fredrick Harris is the publisher) would be great since I'm used to that method already.

As a teenager I learned to play chromatic accordion and piano. Now it's been over 10 years since I stopped practicing. In the mean time I've lived an essential chunk of life -- graduating, getting a job, getting married. But I don't feel quite satisfied with my life. May be music, playing it might provide the sort of recreation I need..

I would appreciate any advice regarding re-starting playing music as a hobbyist. I think I would need an USB piano keyboard (it's essential that I could use headphones and portability is also an issue) and some books to practice. It's quite possible that I might need to quickly re-learn some things. The real question is, would you recommend any modern music that would not be prohibitively hard for an amateur to learn to play? In my teen years I learned to play some classical music, and I'm not sure I'd like to practice all the same stuff again.

 I am a cellist, and I don’t know very much about the piano repertoire except the basics. I have a colleague who also only does the basics, and she recently started teaching. Her students are all very young, and in the extreme juvenile repertoire, but I am very interested in helping her find worthwhile piano music by worthwhile composers that is accessible to younger players and still valid Music. She knows Bach but doesn’t teach him, and her own repertoire is the standard romantic stuff. Her teaching rep-for the older kids- is easy Mozart and Clementi( not even any Haydn, tsk tsk)I suggested that she look up Dvorak and Mendelssohn, and possibly Elgar.

But I know so little about the piano repertoire that I’m actually a little lost.
