Hi everyone,

Have you got any interesting project? I thought it'd be nice to
know what other makers/repairers are up to.

I've just finished the violin linked below, and updated my website
adding more images including of myself attempting to smile. Now I'm
hoping to get on with my cello based on 'de Munck'  Strad.

Tets.

Hi Kimura! Congratulations, very fine violin, I think that perhaps Mauricio will want to know something about your model, since he loves the Bergonzi model.

I'm currently making another 43 centimeters viola based on Andrea Guarneri, I'll start shaping the archings tomorrow. When finished, I would love sending it to Melving for antiquing and varnishing...

Thanks, Manfio.

Is your viola going to be pretty much like your last one? Or are
you making some changes?

Hi Tets..

.Great to see your work! I really like it! ( hold on.. is that your
work or a real Bergonzi?!)...You are living in a lovely part of the
UK! ..I think we met a few years back at Nertz' workshop when you
were a student showing great promise.....Your work was not the
usuall stuff!...Now seeing the really good pro stuff you are doing
I am really please but quite frightened!....Don't ever let that
incremantal curve slacken off...I really feel there is no limit to
what you can acheive....Considering buying a Tets K violin as part
of my pension fund!

I'm working on a cello right now...a bit more patination, polish to
go.

Other stuff.....well there's always lots to experiment with varnish
& I'm very into research on wood felling & seasoning
techniques...I have an idea of how my ideal spruce &
maple should be felled for optimum sound...(which could be
silly)...I also want to get a stock of what I consider the optimum
bridge wood.

Hi Melvin!

Your cello I saw at Nertz' place was very inspiring. I think we,
violin makers, can learn a lot not only from the Great Classical
Makers, but also from contemporary makers, as well.

I'm starting to think more about timber I use as well, and notice
my idea keeps changing day to day!

Great work Melvin, as usual.

Hi Kimura! Thank you! Yes, I hope it will be even better (wishfull thinking...). I don't want to change many things intentionally, but as allways happens, I'll change somethings as I'm making it, I can't make the same things every time...

Melvin, I've noticed you have ocidental saws. I converted to japanese saws some years ago. Tets, you may have many Japanese tools, I imagine.

Tets, Manfio was right. Beautiful work, thanks for sharing your pictures. Is this the ex-Kreisler Bergonzi?

I'm currently working on a Bergonzi model as well, only this time I'm trying Guarnerian thicknesses to see what happens.

If I had 1.5 million, I'd buy a Bergonzi. The best violin I ever tried was in Germany, a Bergonzi and I loved it so much. Your work looks INCREDIBLE. Will you be at the Baltimore convention? I'd love to see this instrument.

Have just finished a copy of one of this year's Strad mag poster instruments on commission (apologies for the $10 camera and inept photographer). Obviously some rubbing-down and polishing still need to be done.

I'm also working on a 1/2 size del Gesu for a local customer and a full-size for a customer in Belgium.

I hope I get some wood I want to order from Ciresa before Christmas - two Conte Vitale violas and two violins (a Strad and a del Gesu) in the pipeline.

Craig

I sent you a PM a few weeks ago about the "inside first" issue - did you get it?

I know this is off-topic and I apologize for that.

Yes, I did, thanks for sending it I know I sound like a broken record with my health problems, but, I am just back from an extended adventure to the ER/ Hospital... hence the lack of recent posts.

I am catching up with correspondance just now. I had a scary bout of intestinal/stomach problems; one trip to the ER, then five more days in the hospital - ten days all told with NO food and little sleep. Fever - halucinations, etc... Heavy antibiotics, clear liquid diet now, the whole nine yards.

They diagnosed one problem from the ct scans, but eventually came around to realizing it was a bad case of campylobacter - food poisining. Similar to the e. Coli that has done so much damage recently with the spinich. The Health Department called, and had several other cases from the same area and all that - they think they have the particular reasturant nailed down..

I thought I was a gonner for a while, which apparently isn't that unusual for a severe case which, because of a somewhat compromised immune system, I got.

Man, It really feels good to be well again.

Give me some time and I'll PM you regarding this.

Hi Tets. I agree with the others, very nice work. Be sure to keep us posted with the progress on your cello. Jacob, your violin looks very nice as well. Do you have any more pics? Myself, I'm working on a new violin inspired by the 'Kruse' Stradivari and also am planning for my first cello which I hope to start in the New Year.

Hi Daryl,

Thanks for the compliment. I'm thinking about getting a better camera, perhaps then I will take some more photos.

Your violins are gorgeous, as are the photos.
